What do you read? Tolkein? Rowling? Christie? King? Any good Star Trek books you've read recently?

I'm reading "A Writer at War" about a Russian writer who joined the Army as a reporter after Germany invaded. We're just about to get to Stalingrad.

And of course, every day I read a little of my newest Uncle John's Bathroom Reader. study

Okay, The Bourne Identity. Lundlum definitely isn't a master of writing, but the plot is compelling enough.

The books have been out for a while - I think the first one came out in the early 90's.

Actually the 80's. Robert Lundlum has written at least 30 thriller titles to date, I believe. Also, the movies are very different than the books, they change names, and even the fundamental plot.

Tolkein, Potter, a bunch of Science Fiction writers....(love David Brin)....I admit I don't read a lot of books a year, but having lived forever, I've managed to read a lot of books...

Have any here read many Trek books? I can recommend the Vanguard series, and the Homecoming trilogy from Voyager.

I lived on Trek books in the late 80's - but only TOS. Some TNG stuff was good, of course - Imzadi pops to mind.

I've only read the James Blish stories and those when I was in Jr. High (funny story, maybe, I had been sorted as "highly gifted" and that meant I got to sit out the regular "English Language" courses and just devote my time to reading...I got to spend that class time in a cool room with bookshelves full of paperbacks, some rugs tossed on the floor and a few beanbag chairs....someone had donated all the James Blish books, so that's what I did when the other kids were studying "English Language"...I read James Blish Star Trek books...in a beanbag chair...sadly, when I got to high school the teacher thought I should know how to diagram a sentence....I didn't...James Blish didn't teach that)

that's awesome. I'm also one of those kids labeled as "advanced", so the best I got was the Magnet class, with all the brightest kids from the district in one classroom, with the greatest teacher ever, Ms. Cleveland. It hasn't come to be that I get to sit out of classes though... although I wish I could've sat out of my 8th grade English class. The curriculum was pitiful, and our teacher didn't help whatsoever.
